Subsidy for Grassroots Overseas Exchange Programs from Kitanagoya in 2018.

We support groups traveling to the Asia Pacific and other regions for grassroots international exchanges in the hope of making Kitanagoya more international.
We aim to make this subsidy a model program to support international exchange led by citizens from the initial stages of planning to management and implementation.

Destination: Asia Pacific (including Muan County, Jeollanan-do, Korea and Guam, USA) and other regions.
Period: From July 1, 2018 to December 31
Contents: Grassroots exchanges and participation in events for international understanding in the countries of their destination
Capacity: Approximately 5 groups
Subsidies of up to 50,000 yen per person will be provided for costs for grassroots exchange.
Qualifications:
  • Members of the applying group must either reside or work in Kitanagoya or be a KIIA member and be at least 18 years old.
  • Applying groups must have an understanding of grassroots exchanges and be able to participate in KIIA activities
  • Applying groups must be able to report their experiences from the program in the citizens briefing session hosted by KIIA
  • Applying groups must consist of at least two persons
How to Apply: Please submit the following documents to KIIA by Monday, May 28, 2018.

《International exchange program with our friendship city for junior high school students 》
Participation opportunity

As part of our international exchange education, Kitanagoya City is sending junior high school students to our friendship city, Muan County in South Korea. We are accepting applications from junior high school students interested in international relations.

Dates: August 8-12, 2016 (Monday to Friday)
Destination: Jeollanam-do, Muan County, South Korea
Program: Cultural exchange and visits to facilities with local junior high school students (including one night of home-stay)
Eligible Applicants: First to third year junior high school students who reside in the city
Cost: 30,000 yen
Application Requirements:

    a. Students able to attend the pre-departure orientation, a workshop, and a post-visit report session.

    b. Families able to host junior high school students from Muan County on July 26 (Tuesday).

How to apply: To apply, submit relevant forms to your school by May 13 (Friday).

Kitanagoya City grass-roots exchange delegation to Guam 2017

The Kitanagoya City International Association celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year. KIIA is sending a grass-roots exchange delegation to Guam, USA to reflect on the past ten years and to envision the next ten years of our association. Kitanagoya citizens will play the main role in this grass-roots exchange delegation. They will be involved in the whole process from sharing ideas, planning, and management to implementation. We look forward to applications from people who are interested in grass-roots exchanges.

Dates: June 28 - July 1, 2017

Program: Grass-roots exchange tour to in Guam, USA
The number of members: About 20 persons
Cost: 55,000 yen (does not include fees for obtaining a passport or other personal costs)
Application Requirements:
  • Applicants must either reside or work in Kitanagoya or be a KIIA member and be at least 18 years old.
  • Applicants must be able to participate in the orientation, a workshop, and a post-report session.
  • Applicants must have an understanding of grass-roots exchange and can support KIIA activities.
How to apply: To apply, submit the following documents to the association by April 17 (Monday)

Asia Pacific Festival

This is an international exchange event handmade by citizens from the sharing of ideas and planning to management and implementation.

Date: February 10, 2018 (Saturday)
Place: Kitanagoya City Culture and Labor Hall
Time: from 10:00 to 15:30
Program: We hope to deepen our mutual understanding with our neighbors through this handmade cultural exchange event whose theme is: watch, get to know and taste the Asia Pacific. This year our spotlight is on Vietnam. Enjoy a Vietnamese folk music concert with the T'rung, the three-string bamboo harp.

The highlight will be the collaboration of South Korean dancing with traditional Japanese dancing by Fuminori Nishikawa, accredited master of the Nishikawa school! Pacific Polynesian dances will also fascinate you!

Asia Festival

Program: This is a handmade event by our citizens for cultural exchange with our Asian neighbors held on the theme: watch, get to know, and taste Asia. This year we are featuring Bali, Indonesia.

Kitanagoya Local Brand Project

Title: World Cooking Class (Korean cuisine)

※Both classes will be held from 9:30 to 14:00
Place: Cooking Room, Kitanagoya City Health Dome
Capacity: 30 persons (applications will be closed as soon as the capacity is full)
Contents: Fig yeast and other Kitanagoya local brand products have been developed through international exchange. This cooking class aims at spreading the use of fig yeast in world cuisine.
Our instructor is Qian Chang Yuan, who served as chef at Westin Chosun Seoul.
Fee: 2000 yen for each class (1500 yen for each class for KIIA members)

Tuition: 6,000 yen (for 3 sessions) (5,000 yen for KIIA members)
Program: Kitanagoya local brand products have been developed through international exchange. Fig yeast is one such product. This cooking course aims at spreading the use of fig yeast in international cuisine.
The course will be instructed by Chun Changwon, who served as a chef at Westin Chosun Seoul.
